After being closed for more than 6 months, the Taj Mahal in Agra will be reopened on September 21. The Mughal architectural monuments were closed to the public on March 17, before a nationwide lockdown began as coronavirus infections spread across India.

The Taj Mahal was once closed during the Indo-Pakistani war in the 1965. Then the doors of the Taj Mahal were closed due to the coronavirus.

Meanwhile, other archeological sites in Agra were opened on September 1. But the Taj Mahal and the Red Fort are still closed due to the proximity of the highly corona-infected area.

However, even if it opens on September 21, the number of visitors to the Taj Mahal will be limited. A maximum of 5,000 visitors can visit this architectural work every day. Of course they have to wear masks. There will be no ticket counter. Tickets must be collected online. Basanta Swarnakar, the caretaker archaeologist of the Agra Circle of the Archaeological Survey of India, spoke about these rules and regulations.

He said that while inspecting the Taj Mahal, all types of hygiene measures taken by the central government should be followed to prevent corona infection. For example, in order to maintain social distance, one has to resort to hand sanitizing. After the opening, the Taj Mahal will be closed on Friday and Sunday and the Agra Fort will be closed on Sunday.

Every year, 20 to 30 lakh tourists come to Agra, India every year to enjoy the beauty of the Taj Mahal, of which more than 2 lakh are foreigners. The most popular tourist destination in India is October, November and February during the cold season. Air polluting vehicles are prohibited from approaching the Taj Mahal.
